Viking Animation

For this project I was able to look into character Animation which ultimately is something I will most likely pursue in future projects.

Here are the general steps that I followed :

1 – Producing the character in Adobe Illustrator – The first step involves rough pencil sketches which were then scanned and added into adobe Illustrator. I then produced the character using a range of shapes. This is the easy part.

2 – Carrying the character over into After Effects – So prior to adding the character to After effects, I converted the character by breaking up each body part into separate layers such as the head, torso, back limbs and front limbs. These must then be imported as layers and not footage which would flatten into a video.

3 – I then re-drew the characters limbs in order to edit them within After Effects – This was hard mainly due to me needing to re-learn the programme. This essentially makes the whole process easier than using the existing limbs.

4 – I then added time frames to each layer to mimic the act of walking. This involved a bobbing head, a front leg that extended forward as a back leg extended backward, arm swinging and repetition of the process.
